Minas Basin: the landscapes

A Solo Show by Carl Snyder

Exhibition: November 1 - December 2, 2018

Opening Reception:  Thursday, November 1, 6-8pm

Artist's talk:  Sunday, November 11 at 2 pm

Open to the Public - Free to Attend

This series of large panorama landscapes captures landforms that surround a very distinct part of Nova Scotia.

Several contain remnants - some current, some far past their original usefulness - of early Acadian/Planter settlement in the Wolfville area.

The views would be for the most part easily recognized by anyone who passed through the area during the past 300 years.

Winter Solstice

A ViewPoint Members' show

December 6-30, 2018

Opening Reception:  Thursday, December 6, 6-8pm

Artist's Talk: Sunday, December 17, 2pm

The Winter Solstice occurs on the longest night / shortest day of the year, the day when the “sun stands still” in the sky. This event deeply affects our psyche; it has been marked and celebrated since Neolithic times. The feeling of hope inspired by the return of light confirms the promises the new life spring will bring. This year, ViewPoint Gallery is celebrating the solstice with an exhibition.

In this exhibition seven artists will be showing work that expresses this return to light and the sense of hope that it brings. Thus many different views of the meaning of Solstice emerge. Images range from the celebration of the winter landscape to the quality of winter's light.

Participating artists are: Eric Boutilier-Brown, Ted Coldwell, Angie Creaser, Kathleen Flanagan, Doug van Hemessen, Jennifer Modigliani, and Roxanne Smith.

Artist's Statement

For me, photography is an organic and spontaneous pursuit, searching for the marvelous in the mundane. It's meditative and requires being present in the moment, as I patiently wait for my subject to be illuminated. It's finding beauty in everyday things. Photography helps me find balance in life. Sometimes I focus on the big picture - a vast landscape. Other days, I am moved by the details of the world around me.
