Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
ViewPoint receives applications all-year round for the following volunteer projects:
Archivist
To begin the 2nd decade as the only photography gallery in Halifax, ViewPoint Gallery is aiming to set up a complete electronic archive of exhibitions, both external and member shows. This would entail setting up the format for archiving, collecting digital images, collecting all public relations and media, artist’s statements and any other relevant information.
Social Media – PR
Developing a comprehensive social media program and setting it up so that it can be easily maintained by a member of the Gallery.
Exhibition Exchange
Researching outside venues for exhibition beyond Halifax - nationally and internationally. Investigating exchange opportunities with other galleries/photographers. Developing database of contacts for future exhibition exchanges.
Please send a copy of your résumé and cover letter to info@viewpointgallery.ca, or drop them off in person at our desk. Please contact the Gallery at 902-420-0854 for questions about the programs.
Internship Programs at ViewPoint Gallery
The gallery is not accepting submissions for internships at this time
ViewPoint Gallery relies on the combined efforts of its gallery members and volunteers for the research and development of new public programs. This year, ViewPoint would like to extend the opportunity to two part-time volunteer interns to assist in this multifaceted process. Through hands-on experience, successful applicants will make contributions to both new and on-going projects, as well as they will gain valuable experience in arts administration and public program development. Both internships would take place during the Fall 2013 period. Please see below for more information:
Gallery Internship Opportunity – Part-time Volunteer
Grant and Sponsorship Researcher
Through this opportunity, the Grant and Sponsorship Researcher will work in conjunction with the Grant Writing Committee in researching grant opportunities to determine that the suitability of the application is appropriate to ViewPoint Gallery’s mission statement. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to learn about arts administration in Nova Scotia and Canada by collaborating with experienced board members and industry professionals of the community.
This will be an excellent opportunity for visual artists, aspiring arts administrators, and humanities students to learn the intricacies of public and private funding from local, provincial, and federal organizations. Students will communicate one-on-one with representatives of each funding body to determine eligibility, deadlines, and requirements for grant submissions. In addition to this, the Grant and Sponsorship Researcher will aid in the multifaceted process of drafting applications for funding or sponsorship.

Program Developer
As a Program Developer, the intern will work with the Programming Committee, Grant Writing Committee and the Board of Directors to propose, to develop and implement public-outreach programs that expand on ViewPoint’s existing programming. Existing programming includes: exhibitions, artist talks, opening receptions, prints reviews, and panel discussions. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to learn about the research, development, funding, communications, and scheduling process involved with public program development.
This opportunity opens the doors for visual artists, aspiring arts administrators, or humanities students to conduct independent research to develop public programming initiatives. Students will present a proposal to the board and will work with different committees in the drafting and organization of the program. The Program Developer will also work with the Grant Writing Committee in researching possible funding opportunities.
Candidates will be selected based on demonstrated interest through a cover letter; verbal and written communication skills; ability to research and work on projects independently; and experience collaborating with teams on long-term projects.
