Philosophy
Anne Bastedo is best known for her capture of the essence of colour and line in a photographic image. She works from a relationship between the eye and the heart, and is happy when her viewer’s emotions are engaged by her photographs.
In your daily life, Anne encourages you to pay attention to what opens this relationship between the eye and the heart for you.
Style
Anne focuses particularly, but not exclusively, on elements in nature and architecture. Her photographs are often described as looking like paintings.
Technique
Now solely digital. Often uses a tripod, but not always. Uses a range of lenses and a Canon camera. All limited-edition prints are made with archival inks on archival quality paper. Anne prints most of her photos herself on an Epson SP-C700 printer at ViewPoint Gallery, and does most of her framing herself. She also makes and sells photographic cards.
Background
Anne has always loved taking photographs, starting with her Brownie box camera in the 1960’s. While earning her living as a lawyer for many years, she pursued her love of photography. Twelve years ago, she launched Serenity Images. She exhibited at Harris & Co. Gallery in Musquodoboit Harbour, NS, SWOON Gallery in Hammonds Plains, NS, sold at the Dartmouth and Halifax Farmer’s Markets, and then became a juried member of the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council to sell at their venues, and was juried into membership at ViewPoint Gallery. She has been a ViewPoint Gallery member since 2006. Anne was on the Board of ViewPoint until 2017 as successively, Member-at-Large, Treasurer and then President.
She also sells at venues around Halifax as well as at Ross Farm Museum, New Ross, NS, NovelTea Cafe and Bookstore, Truro, NS and The Port Grocer in Port Medway, NS.
