Artist Statement:

"Faith Among the Ruins" portrays a profound juxtaposition of devastation and resilience in Gaza. Amidst the rubble and ruins left by relentless bombardments, worshippers gather for prayer, reclaiming a space of peace amid chaos. This image symbolizes an unyielding faith that persists despite overwhelming destruction. By capturing the moment from above, I intended to highlight the stark contrast between the organized, peaceful lines of people and the surrounding devastation, creating a powerful narrative of resistance, humanity, and hope. My goal is to challenge viewers to reflect deeply on the impact of war on everyday life, emphasizing the enduring spirit and dignity of those who continue to rebuild and reclaim their humanity even amid ruins. Ultimately, the image speaks not only of loss but also of the strength and unity that emerge from adversity.

Biography:

Abdelrahman Alkahlout is a Palestinian photojournalist from Gaza, born on December 27, 1996. He began his journey in photography in 2009, using his camera to document the human impact of war and conflict in the region. Over the years, he has covered major events including the wars in Gaza (2021, 2023), the border protests (2018-2019), and the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake. Despite being injured multiple times by Israeli forces while reporting, Abdelrahman remains committed to telling the stories of civilians under siege. His work has received international recognition, earning awards from Tokyo, Berlin, LensCulture, and Fine Art Photography Awards, among others. Currently residing in Istanbul, he continues to advocate for his people through powerful visual storytelling that transcends borders and headlines.
