ViewPoint Gallery is a co-operative space with a mandate to promote the artwork of photographers in Nova Scotia. Owned and operated by the artists who show on its walls, ViewPoint Gallery represents a wide range of photographers from all over Nova Scotia in a unique and vibrant setting. 

Unlike traditional exhibition spaces, ViewPoint Gallery presents a dynamic approach to the display of fine art photography, displaying a mixture of solo and group shows. The gallery continually displays work by all its members, but showcases individual members through month long solo shows, accompanied by artist's talk, presentations and other events. In addition to the solo shows, there are several group shows each year, each focusing on a specific topic, and on special occasions, exhibitions by a non-member photographers or groups.

Founded in July, 2000, ViewPoint Gallery began as a joint project between a small group of Nova Scotian photographers and printmakers who desired a gallery space in which to display their work. Initially a major component of the gallery, the printmaker portion of the co-operative membership gradually dwindled over time, until in 2006, after 2 years with no printmaker members, the gallery formally shifted to focusing on promoting fine art photography exclusively.

Since its founding, ViewPoint Gallery has hosted over 100 different exhibitions, bringing the finest of Nova Scotia’s photography to tens of thousands of visitors. In January 2008, ViewPoint moved to its new location at 1272 Barrington Street, in downtown Halifax. This new location moved ViewPoint Gallery to a street level, storefront location, near the centre of Halifax's busy downtown. With the new location comes oppotunity for the gallery to expand its operations, including a new Open Print Review and Guest Speaker series, and a partnership with PhotoWorkshops.ca to provide educational classes within the gallery's new space.
